FAO, NSO to jointly assess youth participation in agriculture and agrifood systems

A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Nepal and the National Statistics Office (NSO) have launched a joint initiative to assess the participation of young people in the country’s agriculture and agrifood systems.

The two institutions will jointly prepare a statistical status paper titled Status of Youth Engagement in Nepal’s Agriculture and Agrifood Systems. An inception meeting was held to begin the process of bringing together national data on youth involvement in the sector.

The study aims to provide a clearer picture of young people’s participation, opportunities and challenges across agriculture and agrifood systems.

According to the initiative, the findings will provide an evidence base for developing policies, programs and investments that better include young people. The effort is also intended to support the development of more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems in Nepal.

The initiative marks the first time FAO Nepal and the NSO have collaborated on a joint statistical assessment of youth engagement in the sector.
