KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has urged young entrepreneurs working in the information technology sector to invest and expand their businesses confidently in Nepal, saying the government has placed the sector among its key priorities.
Speaking at a meeting with young IT entrepreneurs at the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, Wagle said information technology offers one of the strongest opportunities for Nepal to achieve rapid economic growth. He encouraged entrepreneurs to increase investment, expand their businesses and provide concrete feedback on the policy and regulatory measures needed to accelerate the sector’s development.
“Information technology is a sector where we can make a major leap in a short period. Increase your investment and expand yourselves,” Wagle told the entrepreneurs. He also urged them to share the challenges they are facing and identify what the government needs to do to create a more supportive business environment.
Wagle said the government is also working to attract globally recognised technology companies to Nepal as part of a broader strategy to develop the country into a hub for the IT value chain. He said expanding the technology sector would create more opportunities for young people to build careers and businesses at home and help reduce the pressure to seek opportunities abroad.
The government is preparing to facilitate the sector through improvements in policy, infrastructure and the overall investment environment, he said.
