KATHMANDU: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, argued that the decision to decentralize the power of the Singha Durbar to local communities was aimed at promoting development in Karnali and other underdeveloped regions.
Coordinator Dahal said it while launching a book, ‘Karnali: Upekshya ra Ujjyalo’ (Karnali: Indifference and Potential) written by Dr Dipendra Rokaya and Mohandas Manandhar here today.
Dahal, also the former Prime Minister, claimed that his government had initiated infrastructural development in Karnali region to steer the disadvantaged communities and regions towards the journey of prosperity.
The leader maintained that the construction of the mid-hill east-west highway and north-south corridors had helped strengthen national connectivity.
”With these roads, it is now easier to transport apples from Karnali to other districts and bring food grains from Terai to Karnali,” Dahal argued, adding that such development would not have been possible without the strategic planning of the leadership.
The first republican government led by him had taken initiatives to advance major hydropower projects in Karnali, including the 10,800-megawatt Karnali-Chisapani hydropower project and the Tila-I and Tila-II hydropower projects, Dahal asserted. He also took the event as an opportunity to recall that an understanding had been reached in principle to accelerate the construction of the Hilsa-Surkhet road with support from China.
