KATHMANDU: A bridge connecting Doba village in Myagdi district to the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road has been put at risk due to erosion caused by the Kali Gandaki River. The structure, located on the border of Annapurna Rural Municipality-6 and 1, has sustained significant damage to its approach road, making travel difficult for local residents.
Annapurna Rural Municipality Vice-Chairperson Diwa Kumari Tilija Pun stated that the erosion on the Bhirkate side of the bridge has increased risks for vehicular movement. Since the structure is a bailey bridge under the Department of Roads, the responsibility for repairs lies with the department rather than the local government, she noted. The rural municipality has already informed the District Disaster Management Committee regarding the damage.
The bridge is currently operating only on a single-lane basis. Local resident Amrit Pun warned that if the river erosion is not contained, the remaining approach road could collapse at any time. As this is the only bridge connecting the village to the main road network, residents are urging the concerned authorities to undertake immediate repairs. The village is home to approximately 300 households.
