KATHMANDU: Relief materials worth approximately Rs 1.4 million have been distributed to 140 families affected by floods along the Narayani riverbank in Gaindakot-2.
The families had been residing in a temporary shelter following floods that occurred on Sept. 25, 26 and 27.
The relief distribution was carried out at the request of Gaindakot Municipality, coordinated by Jagriti Child and Youth Concern Nepal (JCYCN) and supported by Save the Children. The affected families were relocated to a temporary holding center established at Mahendra Smarak Basic School.
Each family received a relief package containing a shelter kit, blankets, P-foam, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary pads and mosquito nets. Deepak Sharma, General Secretary of JCYCN, stated that the materials were provided in the first phase to address the immediate needs of the displaced families.
Tilotam Poudel, president of JCYCN, emphasized the need for vigilance regarding the safety of children, adolescents, pregnant women, new mothers and the elderly, who are vulnerable to violence and abuse during disasters. He noted that alongside material support, psychosocial counseling and awareness programs are essential. JCYCN has previously collaborated with development partners and the private sector to provide relief, rehabilitation and livelihood support during various crises, including earthquakes and the Bhote Koshi floods.
