KATHMANDU: The risk of flooding at the Balkhu vegetable market has increased due to continuous rainfall.
As the water level in the nearby river continues to rise, there is a growing threat of water entering the market area, potentially causing inundation. Local authorities have urged traders and the public to remain alert.
The persistent rainfall over the past few days has led to an increase in the river’s flow, putting settlements and commercial hubs along the riverbanks at significant risk. In response to the rising threat, relevant agencies have initiated precautionary measures. Monitoring of the river embankments is currently underway to prevent water from breaching the market premises.
While no major damage has been reported so far, local residents remain concerned as the river level continues to rise. Security personnel have been kept on standby to assist with emergency rescue operations if necessary. With the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting more rain, residents living near the river have been advised to exercise extreme caution.
