KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall over the past few days has caused full and partial blockages along major highways, national trunk routes, and feeder road sections across the country.
According to the Nepal Police and local administrations, transport services have been heavily disrupted by floods and landslides.
Highway traffic has come to a complete standstill in both directions due to landslides at Krishnabhir and Gajuri in Dhading, as well as Ghansikuwa, Mauribhir, Seratar, and Chunpahara in Tanahu.
Similarly, the BP Highway is completely blocked following landslides at Charsayabesi and Gimdibesi in Kavre.
As a precautionary measure, authorities have prohibited vehicle movement between 5:00 PM and 5:00 AM in the Kavre and Sindhuli sections.
Traffic remains obstructed on the Araniko Highway at Dhulikhel and on the Kanti Lokpath at Takurchhe and Pangdurdol in Lalitpur due to landslides.
The Narayangadh-Mugling road section has also been completely closed as landslides struck multiple locations.
In Rasuwa, severe erosion by the Trishuli River at Khalte has completely destroyed a section of the Pasang Lhamu Highway.
In Gandaki Province, vehicular movement has halted due to landslides at Putlibazar on the Siddhartha Highway, the Baglung and Parbat sections of the Mid-Hill Highway, and the Besisahar-Manang road section.
Transport services across Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces have likewise been obstructed by landslides and mudslides, with road blockages reported at Gagan Khola in Kalikot, Khachha in Humla, and Airichhina in Darchula.
In view of the heightened risk, the Department of Roads and local administrations have imposed nighttime travel restrictions on several highways.
Time-slotted movement schedules have been implemented on the Tribhuvan Highway, where vehicles weighing over 15 tonnes are strictly prohibited.
Nighttime traffic has also been suspended between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM on the Tokha-Chhahare road, while internal roads in Koshi Province remain restricted to traffic between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
