KATHMANDU: Floods, landslides, and road maintenance works have caused full or partial closures of several major highways across the country.
According to Nepal Police, as of 6:00 a.m. on Sept. 16, road sections in Bagmati and Karnali provinces are significantly impacted.
In Bagmati Province, special traffic regulations have been in effect on the BP Highway in Kavre since Aug. 31. Until further notice, only cargo vehicles weighing up to 10 tonnes are permitted to operate between 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Traffic during the day, from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is managed based on prevailing conditions.
All major highways in Rasuwa have been fully blocked since 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 due to floods. In Nuwakot, traffic on the Tokha-Chhahare road section is prohibited from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. since Aug. 17 due to risks of floods and landslides. Additionally, the Pasang Lhamu highway in Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot, has been fully blocked since Aug. 26 due to flooding.
In Dhading, the Prithvi Highway remains completely blocked at Krishna Bhir in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-7 since Aug. 30. Traffic is running one-way at two other locations on the same highway after debris clearance. Meanwhile, road maintenance at Tuinkhola on the Narayangadh-Mugling road section in Chitwan, ongoing since Sept. 7, has limited traffic flow to one-way operations depending on vehicle volume.
In Karnali Province, the Karnali Corridor in Humla has been fully obstructed at Kharikhet in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-6 since Sept. 14 due to a landslide.
