KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has made a preliminary assessment that the massive flood originating from the Tibet side and flowing through Rasuwa has caused significant damage to hydropower projects with a combined capacity of more than 300 megawatts along the Trishuli River corridor.
Both operational and under-construction hydropower projects have been affected, with initial assessments indicating that powerhouses and substations at several projects have been destroyed or severely damaged.
According to the ministry, the affected projects include the 111-MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, 22-MW Chilime Hydropower Project, 60-MW Trishuli 3A, 37-MW Trishuli 3B, 14-MW Mailung Hydropower Project and 35-MW Trishuli-Benighat Hydropower Project.
The ministry also said that the 57-MW Upper Sanjen and Sanjen hydropower projects have sustained damage from the floods.
“Official details on the extent of the damage have not yet been received. We are currently collecting information on the employees working at the affected projects,” the ministry told Nepal Khabar.
The ministry said a detailed assessment of damage to the projects, including their generation facilities, substations and other infrastructure, will be carried out once access to the affected areas is restored.
