KATHMANDU: Heavy and continuous rainfall has disrupted road transportation in several parts of the country, with landslides, flooding, and erosion blocking roads and prompting authorities to impose travel restrictions on some routes during nighttime.

According to the Police Headquarters’ update issued at 5:00 am Saturday, road disruptions have been reported in Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Rukum West, Lamjung, Ilam, Nuwakot, Rolpa, Palpa, and Makawanpur.

In Kavrepalanchok, authorities have banned vehicle movement on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunje Besi road from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am because of the possibility of flooding. The route remains open to traffic between 4:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Traffic on the Kanti Highway in Makawanpur has similarly been restricted from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am due to adverse weather conditions.

On the Tokha–Chhahare section in Nuwakot, all public and private vehicles, except those providing essential services, are prohibited from operating between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am. The restriction will remain effective until further notice.

The Mechi Highway has been blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 after mud accumulated on the roadway. An alternative route is available at the site.

The Araniko Highway has been completely obstructed at Kodari in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality-2, Sindhupalchok, following a landslide at Iku and the collapse of the road at Lipping.

In Rasuwa, the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubeshi road section at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5 has been rendered impassable after the Trishuli River eroded the road.

The Pasang Lhamu Highway at Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-2 has also remained blocked since a landslide struck the area on Thursday afternoon.

In Rukum West, a landslide has blocked the Jajarkot–Dolpa road along the Bheri Corridor at Rije Guard Khola in Aathbiskot Municipality-6.

The Besisahar–Manang road has been obstructed at Rambazar in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung, following another landslide.

In Rolpa, the Ghorahi–Thawang–Rukum Shahid Path has been blocked at Jhakali in Madi Rural Municipality-6 due to a landslide.

Meanwhile, the Siddhartha Highway has been completely blocked in Tinau Rural Municipality-3, Palpa, after a landslide occurred about 100 meters north of the district entrance near the Siddhababa Tunnel Road on Saturday morning.

Police have advised motorists and travelers to remain alert while passing through affected areas, assess road conditions before traveling, and use alternative routes where possible, as the risk of additional landslides and flooding remains high.
