NEW YORK: Nepal and Bhutan have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation on climate change and disaster mitigation, highlighting their shared vulnerabilities as mountainous nations during a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The commitment came during a courtesy call between Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay on September 22 in New York, where both leaders discussed expanding the cordial relations between the two Himalayan countries.
During the meeting, the leaders exchanged views on strengthening bilateral ties while expressing growing concern over the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters driven by global climate change.
Recognizing that both countries face similar environmental threats, Minister Khanal and Prime Minister Tobgay emphasized the urgency of reinforcing joint efforts and collaborative regional advocacy to address climate challenges.
