KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal is set to travel to Belgrade, Serbia, on August 30 to represent Nepal at a high-level commemorative meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khanal will head a three-member Nepali delegation to the event, which will be held in the Serbian capital on August 31 and September 1.
The meeting is being organised to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the first NAM summit, which was held in Belgrade in 1961.
Heads of state and government, along with delegations and representatives from NAM member states, are expected to attend the commemorative event.
Non-alignment has long been a key pillar of Nepal’s foreign policy, and the country’s commitment to the NAM is also reflected in the Constitution as an important foreign policy principle.
Nepal has maintained high-level participation in NAM summits, ministerial conferences and other related meetings since the Bangkok Summit.
The Foreign Ministry said Khanal is scheduled to return to Nepal on September 2.
