GORKHA: A 50-year-old Singaporean national died on Mount Manaslu in northern Gorkha on Wednesday while descending from Camp Two to Base Camp, local police reported.
The deceased has been identified as Lau Wee Seng. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Shrestha of the District Police Office, Seng collapsed during his descent in the Samagaun area of Chumanuwri Rural Municipality-1.
Seng had arrived in Samagaun on September 7 as part of an expedition team aiming to scale the world’s eighth-highest peak during the autumn climbing season.
Local authorities and expedition handlers are coordinating to recover the body and transport it to Kathmandu for an autopsy and logistical arrangements with the Singaporean embassy.
