KATHMANDU: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has inspected four food businesses in Chandragiri municipality, seizing and destroying expired and unauthorized food items.
The operation was conducted in coordination with the Kathmandu division office and local police.
During the inspection at Krishna Pushkari and Goodpak Bhandar in Dhungeadda, officials found the use of expired raw materials.
The team seized expired chocolates, infested roasted gram, rice flour, and skim milk powder, alongside approximately 535 kilograms of pushkari and 100 kilograms of goodpak. The destroyed items were valued at approximately Rs 260,000. The facility has been sealed for further investigation.
At Bajrabarahi Bhandar in the same area, inspectors reported poor hygiene standards and seized 350 kilograms of unauthorized food products. The industry has been sealed. Meanwhile, at Saraswati Basket in Swayambhu, officials confiscated expired semolina, bread crumbs, thyme, and red kidney beans. The store owner has been directed to report to the office within seven days.
Additionally, Yeti Ice Pvt. Ltd. in Swayambhu was found operating without the necessary production permits from the department. The industry failed to comply with the processed drinking water production guidelines of 2074. The department has halted all production and sales at the facility and initiated further investigation under the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081.
