KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Saroj Nemkul, the operator of Siddhipur Gas Store located in Mahalaxmi Municipality-6, Sanagaun, Lalitpur.
He was taken into custody on allegations of creating an artificial shortage of cooking gas by tampering with cylinder seals.
A joint team from the Satdobato Police Circle and Imadol Police Division conducted a raid on the store following reports that the operator was breaking cylinder seals and claiming the gas was empty to manipulate supply. During the operation, police seized 24 cylinders from the store, including 2 that were properly sealed and 22 that were filled but lacked seals.
According to Gautam Mishra, spokesperson for the Lalitpur District Police Range, the 47-year-old operator is currently being held at the Satdobato Police Circle. Authorities have extended his detention to facilitate further investigation into the charges of creating an artificial shortage of essential goods.
