KATHMANDU: Major General Anup Jung Thapa of the Nepali Army has been given additional responsibility as Director General of the Policy Directorate.
Thapa is currently serving as Director General of the Operations, one of the army’s powerful and influential directorates.
His appointment to the additional position is being viewed within military circles in the context of the upcoming race for the post of Chief of Army Staff (CoAS). There is speculation that the additional responsibility could be part of an effort to position Thapa for the top military post.
Thapa is currently seen as a leading contender for the post of the next Chief of Army Staff.
