KATHMANDU: Google has launched an emergency information service in Nepal to provide the public with timely updates and warnings about floods and other disaster risks.
Google has added a dedicated “Nepal Flash Flood Emergency Info & Updates” link to its homepage, allowing users to access the latest information on flood conditions, high-risk areas and relevant reports from international media outlets.
The service also features Google’s “Flood Alerts” and maps showing areas affected by or at risk of flooding. The tools are designed to help users identify vulnerable locations and understand the situation in those areas.
According to Google, the initiative aims to deliver flood forecasts and warnings issued by relevant government agencies to the public more quickly through digital platforms.
Information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and its Flood Forecasting Division will be made available to users through Google Search and Google Maps.
Timely alerts are expected to help people living in flood-prone areas assess risks, take precautions and move to safer locations when necessary.
The service comes as Nepal continues to face recurring floods, landslides and other sudden disasters, adding another digital channel for delivering critical information during emergencies.
