JANAKPURDHAM: CPN coordinator and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused the government of delaying the rescue of people trapped in a tunnel during the Bhote Koshi river flooding.
Speaking at a party event in Janakpurdham on Thursday, he stated that the government failed to seek timely assistance from the international community, subject experts, and specialized rescue teams.
Prachanda claimed that the government’s inability to utilize advanced technology and skilled personnel for the search and rescue operations was a significant weakness.
He asserted that many lives could have been saved if the rescue efforts had been conducted promptly with appropriate resources.
Furthermore, Dahal emphasized the need for Nepal to effectively raise the issue of climate change on international platforms.
He noted that the melting of glaciers is not merely an environmental issue but one directly linked to human civilization and survival.
Recalling his previous terms as prime minister, he stated that he had consistently raised these concerns globally and urged that the international community’s serious attention must be drawn to the matter again.
He highlighted that the impact of climate change is not limited to the Himalayan region but is progressively affecting human life, agriculture, water resources, biodiversity, and the overall economy.
