KATHMANDU: The government and the family of Rabindra Kumar Mehta, who died in an incident in Devanaganj Rural Municipality-3 of Sunsari on Shrawan 10, have reached a seven-point agreement.
The agreement was reached on Monday between Mehta’s family and Home Minister Sudhan Gurung. Under the deal, the government has agreed to immediately initiate the process of declaring Mehta a martyr.
The government has also agreed to conduct a fair and effective investigation into the incident that occurred on the night of Shrawan 10 in Kasangunj, Devanaganj-3, and take legal action against those found responsible.
A separate investigation will also be launched into the legal status of the madrasa located in Devanaganj-3 and related issues.
The government has agreed to take necessary steps to provide employment to one qualified member of the deceased’s family.
It will also initiate the necessary legal process to implement the recommendations and suggestions made by the investigation committee formed to study the incident.
Under the agreement, the government will arrange for Mehta’s body to be transported to Devanaganj-3, Sunsari, by a Nepal Army helicopter for his funeral.
The government and local authorities have also agreed to allocate a budget within the current fiscal year to construct a memorial park at an appropriate location in coordination with the local government, commemorating the three people who died in the incident.
