Government forms team for talks with pro-monarchy campaign

KATHMANDU: The government has formed a four-member team to hold talks with representatives of the protesting Rashtra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti and Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers formed the dialogue team on Monday evening under the coordination of Joint Secretary Liladhar Subedi.

The team includes Joint Secretaries Anand Kafle from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mahesh Acharya from the Ministry of Finance, and Dilaram Panthi from the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration.

The move followed extensive discussions held throughout Monday between government officials and representatives of the campaign at the office of Lalitpur Chief District Officer Narahari Ghimire.

According to officials, the two sides agreed that the government would formally constitute a dialogue team and invite the protesting group for talks in response to its demands.

Campaign representatives also received the government’s formal letter inviting them to negotiations.

The campaign was represented during the discussions by Bishnu Bohora Chhetri, Raju Acharya, Sakuni Singh, Hardev Mahato, Tara Bajgain and Bijay Thapa.

The formation of the dialogue team marks the government’s formal move to engage with the campaign, which has been pressing its demands concerning the nation, national identity, religion, culture and citizens’ interests.
