KATHMANDU: The government has released Rs 1 billion from the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to support relief and rehabilitation operations across flood-affected local levels in the country.
The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission. Executive Chief of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, Dr. Dharmaraj Upreti, stated that the funds deposited at the Everest Bank Singha Durbar branch under the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund were transferred to the Disaster Management Fund in accordance with Section 22 of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act, 2074.
Under the allocation, Nuwakot’s Bidur Municipality received Rs 15 million, Belkotgadhi Municipality Rs 7.5 million, Tarakeshwar Rural Municipality Rs 5 million, and Kispang Rural Municipality Rs 2.5 million. In Rasuwa district, Gosaikunda Rural Municipality was allocated Rs 10 million, Uttargaya Rs 7.5 million, Kalika Rs 3 million, and Amachodingmo Rs 2 million.
Similarly, Dhading’s Galchhi Rural Municipality received Rs 3 million, while Siddhalek, Gajuri, and Benighat Rorang Rural Municipalities were provided Rs 2 million each. Gandaki Rural Municipality in Gorkha and Devghat Rural Municipality in Tanahun received Rs 2 million each.
Upreti noted that a total of Rs 135 million has been disbursed so far to 15 affected local levels, including immediate relief funds dispatched on the day of the flooding. Local authorities will utilize the funds to restore essential services such as roads, drinking water, power, and telecommunications, conduct minor repairs on health posts and schools, provide temporary shelters, and transport relief supplies.
