KATHMANDU: The government is preparing to release a detailed report on the damages caused by the floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers within a month.
The National Planning Commission and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority are currently conducting a comprehensive assessment in the affected areas.
National Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Dr. Gunakar Bhatta stated that over 250 personnel have been deployed across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and Gorkha to collect data. Technical teams are documenting damages across 11 sectors, including private housing, hydropower projects, roads, bridges, and water supply infrastructure. A steering committee is overseeing the entire process.
An initial report previously estimated that reconstruction would require approximately 7 billion rupees, but it did not include relief payments for the families of the deceased. Authority Executive Director Dr. Dharma Raj Upreti acknowledged this omission and confirmed that the upcoming final report will incorporate these relief figures.
Under current government standards, families of victims are entitled to 200,000 rupees in relief. If multiple members of the same family perished, an additional 100,000 rupees is provided for each subsequent victim. According to the authority, 1,451 bodies have been recovered, while 5,705 individuals remain missing.
The Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment (RDNA) report estimates that the total damage exceeds 408.28 billion rupees. The total requirement for reconstruction and rehabilitation is estimated at 723.31 billion rupees.
The floods damaged 13 hydropower projects and five solar power plants, with reconstruction costs for the energy sector alone estimated at 390.62 billion rupees.
