KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balendra Shah has announced that the government is preparing to transfer all land administration services to local government levels within the next month. Writing on social media, the Prime Minister noted that the process has already been initiated, with 33 municipalities currently operating these services successfully.

The initiative is being implemented in accordance with the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 and the Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2083. Prime Minister Shah stated that the move is an integral part of the government’s 100-point governance reform agenda. He said, ‘The process of transferring land administration services to the local level has been initiated in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Operation Act, 2074 and the Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Relating to Land, 2083.’

The government has decided to accelerate the transition, ensuring that land administration services are mandatorily operational across all remaining local levels within the upcoming month. The Prime Minister assured that the federal government would provide all necessary support to local authorities during this transition.

Emphasizing that the core essence of a federal democratic republic is to bridge the gap between the state and its citizens, he stated, ‘The ultimate goal is not to easily reach distant offices to get state services, but to reach the necessary offices and their services to the citizens.’ The government maintains that this initiative will enable local levels to fully exercise their constitutional and legal rights regarding land administration.
