KATHMANDU: The government has implemented a new system to address the LP gas supply shortage in the Kathmandu Valley caused by recent floods.
Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav held discussions with relevant agencies to ensure a smooth supply of gas to consumers.
Under the new rules, consumers in the valley can now exchange an empty cylinder from one company for a full cylinder of another brand at the same price. If a consumer’s preferred brand is unavailable, they are permitted to purchase gas using any available cylinder.
The ministry stated that this is a temporary arrangement put in place because the supply chain has been disrupted by the floods.
Minister Yadav has directed the Nepal Oil Corporation and gas industries to strictly implement this decision. The ministry further warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who exploits the crisis to create artificial shortages, causes inconvenience to consumers or fails to follow the prescribed regulations.
