Govt. committed to make advertising market transparent, competitive: Minister Dr Timilsina

KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has shared that the government has been carrying out activities to improve overall advertising cycle in order to make advertising market healthy, transparent and competitive.

During a meeting with office-bearers of Advertising Association of Nepal (AAN) here on Monday, Minister Dr Timilsina underlined that the government has taken seriously the matter of financial irregularities in distribution of government advertisement seen in the past.

He stressed that all sides associated with advertising cycle should play their part in a transparent and professional manner, and thus not repeat such problems in distribution of government advertisement.

Stating that National Advertising Policy has been issued recently, the Communications Minister mentioned that policy reform would be implemented in an effective way to make the advertising sector systematic, competitive and transparent.

He viewed that there has been a significant change in the advertising methods and behaviour of consumers along with rapid development of digital media.

There is a need of collaboration and coordination between the government and private sector to make Nepal’s communication and advertising field creative, competitive and commercial, emphasized Minister Dr Timilsina, adding the advertising sector should be made systematic and dignified as the development of advertising sector makes financial base of media strong as well as contributes in employment creation and business promotion.

Similarly, the AAN drew attention of the ministry about the problems faced by the advertising market and advertising agencies and policy-level issues, adding Nepal’s advertising business along with Nepal’s economy was affected after COVID-19 pandemic.

Stating that advertising agency has been working as important bridge between the government, media, advertisers and consumers, the Association mentioned that the advertising sector has remarkable contribution in creating employment as well as trade and business promotion.
