KATHMANDU: The government has introduced strict new standards to regulate and reduce expenses on foreign travel for civil and public servants.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) issued a circular to all ministries, commissions, and government agencies directing the strict enforcement of these rules.
Under the new guidelines, government bodies must secure prior approval from the OPMCM before nominating any employee for foreign visits.
Overseas travel and nominations conducted without prior clearance have been completely halted.
Additionally, employees returning from foreign visits, training sessions, seminars, or conferences are now required to share the knowledge and skills they acquired with their colleagues.
Returning officials must conduct these knowledge-sharing sessions within five days of reporting back to office.
The government expects these stricter measures to curtail unnecessary foreign trips while making the outcomes and benefits of official visits more transparent and impactful.
