KATHMANDU: The trailer of the upcoming Nepali film Hali, which explores the harmful practice of Chhaupadi and its impact on adolescent girls’ education, has been released ahead of its theatrical debut on August 6 (Shrawan 22).

The trailer was unveiled during a special event in Kathmandu on Friday, offering a glimpse into the film’s socially driven narrative.

It highlights the deeply rooted discriminatory practices surrounding menstruation, including the denial of girls’ access to school during their periods and the superstition that they must not see the faces of their fathers or other men for 21 days. Through its storyline, the film challenges these harmful traditions and delivers the message that a single “Hali” can spark meaningful social change.

Produced jointly by Japura Films Production and Shubha Chirayu Films, Hali is written and directed by Om Pratik.

The film stars Pramod Deep, Sujata Thapa, Bidya Karki, Saroj Khanal, Aruna Karki, Arjun Gurung, Nabin Shrestha, Kanchan Dulal, Kamal Gaule, Bishal Pahari, and director Om Pratik himself in lead roles.

The film is produced by Pooja Gurung and Jasmine Shrestha, with Arjun Bhusal serving as executive producer, Namrata Bhandari as co-producer, and Laxman Karmacharya as line producer.
