HUMLA: Shram Sanskriti Party chairman and lawmaker Harka Sampang has stated that citizens in remote areas must receive equal access to public services and facilities.
During his visit to Adanchuli and Sarkegad rural municipalities, Sampang argued that the unequal distribution of state services has led to an urban-centric concentration of education, health, and transportation infrastructure.
He noted that this disparity is a primary reason for the declining population in rural regions, adding that people would choose to live anywhere if essential services were accessible.
Sampang also committed to ending the reliance on tuins, or cable crossings, for river passage. His visit to Humla is linked to the planned construction of a suspension bridge over the Karnali River at Khadikhet in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-2.
He made the commitment following reports in media and on social platforms highlighting that local residents were forced to cross the river using risky cable crossings.
The process for constructing the suspension bridge through an NGO named Kadoorie has already been initiated. Attention is now focused on the progress of the project, the timeline for construction, and when the necessity for locals to use cable crossings will finally end.
Residents of the remote Himalayan district of Humla have faced significant challenges for years due to a lack of roads, bridges, and basic services.
