KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall and strong winds have triggered widespread disruption across Lumbini province, leading to incidents of landslides, flooding, and structural damage.
The Provincial Emergency Operation Centre has warned of increased landslide risks in hilly regions and flooding in the Terai districts.
In Pyuthan, strong winds damaged the roofs of a dharamshala and a cowshed in Swargadwari Municipality-2, while five houses in Naubahini Rural Municipality-7 had their roofs blown off. Those affected include Biuman Rokaya, Motiram Sunar, Toparam Sunar, Bir Bahadur Gharti, and Dhir Bahadur GC.
In Arghakhanchi, 30 households in Sandhikharka Municipality-7 have been relocated to a community building due to landslide risks. Similarly, about 40 families in Chandrakot Rural Municipality, Gulmi, have been moved to safety as a precautionary measure against potential landslides.
Flooding has been reported in the Susta area of West Nawalparasi, with water entering residential homes and the local police station. In Dang, farmers are facing losses as heavy winds and rain flattened standing paddy crops ready for harvest. Several schools in the district also suffered damage to their roofing. The adverse weather has blocked roads across the province, hindering transportation, though efforts to clear affected routes are underway.
The Provincial Emergency Operation Centre noted that rain continues to fall across several districts. Authorities have cautioned residents to remain vigilant, particularly those living near rivers, streams, and landslide-prone areas, and have advised against unnecessary travel during the inclement weather. Local governments and security agencies have been placed on standby for emergency response and rescue operations.
