KATHMANDU: Persistent rainfall has caused landslides and road blockages in a number of districts, disrupting traffic movement on several major highways and road sections across the country.

Police said that by 6:00 am today, transportation had been affected in parts of Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Rasuwa, Rukum West, and Lamjung.

A landslide early this morning completely blocked the BP Highway in Kavrepalanchok. Authorities have restricted vehicle movement on the highway from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am as a precaution against possible flooding, while traffic is being allowed only during daytime hours.

In Ilam, mudslides have fully blocked the Mechi Highway, and travelers have been advised to use alternative routes.

The Araniko Highway has also been obstructed at several points in Sindhupalchok due to landslides, affecting transportation in a number of rural municipalities.

Meanwhile, river erosion has made the Trishuli–Mailung–Syafrubensi road in Rasuwa impassable.

Landslides have blocked the Jajarkot–Dolpa section of the Bheri Corridor in Rukum West, and a section of the Mid-Hill Highway in Lamjung has also been affected.

Officials said road-clearing operations are underway, but continued rainfall has raised concerns about additional landslides and flooding.

Police have urged the public to remain cautious and obtain updated information on road conditions before traveling.
