Heavy rain expected in five provinces today

KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to affect the country, with the monsoon trough positioned near its average location in the eastern region and closer to Nepal than its normal position in the west.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, the weather is currently generally cloudy nationwide. Moderate rainfall is being recorded at many places in Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, at some places in Lumbini and Karnali provinces, and at one or two places in the hilly areas of Koshi Province. Heavy rainfall has also been reported at one or two places in Gandaki Province.

The weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces and at some places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also expected at many places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and at some places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Madhesh and Koshi provinces.

The division has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Gandaki and Karnali provinces, as well as in the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Generally cloudy conditions are expected to continue nationwide tonight. Some places in the mountainous areas may receive moderate rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely at many places in the hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces and at some places in the hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces.

Similarly, moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected at many places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces and at some places in the Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Madhesh and Koshi provinces.

Heavy rainfall is likely in the hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as at one or two places in the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. The division has warned that very heavy rainfall could occur at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Sudurpaschim Province.

The division has urged people to remain vigilant in areas expected to receive heavy rainfall, citing the possibility of flash floods, floods, landslides and soil erosion.

It has also advised the public to take necessary precautions and stay updated with the latest weather forecasts, as rainfall could affect daily activities as well as agriculture, health, tourism, mountaineering, road transport and air services.
