KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions remain active across much of Nepal, bringing light to moderate rainfall to several provinces and raising concerns about flash floods, landslides, and soil erosion in vulnerable areas.

The Weather Forecasting Division said the weather is generally cloudy throughout Koshi and Lumbini provinces and in the mountainous and hilly regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

In contrast, the Terai areas of Madhes Province and the Terai regions of Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces are experiencing partly cloudy conditions. Light to moderate rain is occurring in some places in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.

For this afternoon, the Division has forecast generally cloudy weather across the country. Moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in some mountainous areas, with a chance of snowfall in higher elevations. Many hilly areas are also expected to receive moderate rainfall.

Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is also possible in some Terai areas of Koshi, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and in a few places in the Terai regions of Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces.

The Division has warned that one or two places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini Province may experience heavy rainfall.

Tonight, cloudy conditions are expected to continue across the country. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some Himalayan areas, along with possible snowfall in higher elevations. Many hilly and Terai areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces are also expected to receive moderate rainfall.

Some Terai areas of Madhes and Koshi provinces may receive moderate rainfall as well.

The Division has urged residents of vulnerable areas to remain cautious, warning that heavy rainfall could increase the risk of flash floods, floods, landslides, and soil erosion. The weather may also disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
