KATHMANDU: Monsoon activity continues across Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology predicting widespread cloudiness and rainfall in many parts of the country.

The department has warned that some hilly and mountainous regions may receive heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of floods and landslides. Weather conditions are generally cloudy over the Himalayan and hilly belts, including Koshi, Madhes and Bagmati provinces, while the Terai is experiencing partly cloudy to mostly clear skies.

Light rain accompanied by thunder has been reported in parts of Bagmati Province, while isolated areas of Koshi, Madhes and Lumbini provinces are also receiving light showers.

For this afternoon, the department expects generally cloudy conditions nationwide. Moderate rain and snowfall are possible in some mountainous areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Moderate rainfall is likely across many hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, and in some hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Parts of the Terai may also experience moderate rainfall.

The department has specifically warned that one or two mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces could receive heavy rainfall. Cloudy conditions are expected to persist tonight, with moderate rain and snowfall possible in some hilly and mountainous regions.

Moderate rainfall is also forecast in parts of the Terai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Madhes and Sudurpaschim provinces, while isolated hilly areas of Karnali Province may experience heavy rain.

Residents of vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert, as intense rainfall may increase the chances of flash floods, flooding, landslides and soil erosion. The department also cautioned that the weather could disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, mountaineering, and road and air transportation.
