KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall and landslides have disrupted transportation across Nepal, with nine major highways and several road sections completely blocked, according to Nepal Police.

In its road update issued at 6:00 am Friday, police said landslides and erosion have affected around a dozen key corridors. As a precaution against flooding, all vehicles have been barred from operating on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway linking Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am. Night-time restrictions also remain in force on the Kanti Highway, where vehicles are prohibited from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am throughout the monsoon season.

Highways completely blocked include the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam, the Araniko Highway at Jiro Kilo and Kodari in Sindhupalchok, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung, the Ghorahi–Thawang Sahid Highway in Rolpa, the Nagma–Gamgadhi Road in Mugu, the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa, the Mid-Hill Highway in Achham, and the Besisahar–Chame–Manang Road in Lamjung.

Meanwhile, the Lamosanghu–Ramechhap Road at Kirnetar in Dolakha was disrupted after erosion by the Tamakoshi River. Police said traffic has been diverted through an alternative route passing the premises of the Khimti Rural Electric Cooperative Office.Authorities have urged travellers to remain alert and monitor official updates as monsoon activity continues to intensify.
