KATHMANDU: Monsoon conditions remain active across Nepal, with rain and thunderstorms forecast for many parts of the country today, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division said the monsoon trough remains near its average position. Skies are generally cloudy over the country’s hilly and mountainous regions, while the Tarai is partly cloudy. Light rain is already occurring at a few locations in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
During the day, moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at several places in the hilly and mountainous regions. Similar conditions are expected in parts of the Tarai of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as isolated areas of the Tarai in Koshi, Madhesh and Sudurpashchim provinces.
The weather office has also forecast heavy rainfall at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Lumbini Province and the hilly and mountainous regions of Bagmati, Gandaki and Karnali provinces.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue tonight, with generally cloudy conditions forecast across the country. Moderate rainfall is likely in several hilly and mountainous areas, while parts of the Tarai in Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, along with isolated areas of Madhesh Province, may also experience thunderstorms and moderate rain.
