KATHMANDU: A wave of persistent rainfall and severe landslides has grounded vehicular movement across several key transport corridors in Nepal, prompting authorities to impose night travel bans on high-risk routes.

According to data released by the Police Head Office, severe road erosion and debris slides have completely cut off major arterial roads passing through Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Rasuwa, Tehrathum, and Rukum Paschim.

To mitigate safety risks associated with flooding, vehicular access along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway has been suspended daily between 6:00 PM and 4:00 AM, while a similar overnight ban from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM is now in effect on the Kanti Lokpath.

Across the country, heavy mud forced a complete shutdown of the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam, and the Arniko Highway remains impassable across Jirokilo, Kodari, Lipping, and Dumre due to structural cave-ins and falling debris.

Further disruptions have hit the Mid-Hill Highway near Kade in Tehrathum, the Trishuli–Mailung–Syabrubesi road following severe riverbank erosion at Khalte in Rasuwa, and the Bheri Corridor at the flooded Rijegard Stream in Rukum Paschim.

Given the ongoing threat of further slope failures and flash floods, law enforcement officials strongly advise travelers to confirm real-time road status before departing.
