HETAUDA: Six people, including the chief judge and registrar of the High Court Birgunj, were injured when a vehicle plunged about 60 metres into a gorge at Jurikhet in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-6, Makawanpur, on Tuesday morning.
According to Madhav Raj Kafle, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Makawanpur, the Scorpio (Province 3-01-002 Jha 5183) was travelling from Kathmandu to Hetauda when it veered off the road and fell into the gorge at around 7 am.
The injured have been identified as Gokarna Dangi, 57, of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-9; Tara Datta Badu, 51, of Dasharath Chand Municipality, Baitadi; Badu’s wife, Laxmi Badu, 49; his son, Ritendra Badu, 31; Rita Badu, 31; and driver Chhuni Lal Chaudhari, 32, of Rapti Municipality-8, Dang.
Dangi is the chief judge of the High Court Birgunj, while Badu is the court’s registrar.
Laxmi Badu sustained serious injuries, while the other five injured are reported to be in stable condition.
Police reached the accident site shortly after receiving information and rescued the injured before taking them to Bhimphedi Hospital for treatment. Four of the injured, including Dangi, were later airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment.
A Nepali Army helicopter transported the four injured to Birendra Hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu. Police said further investigation into the accident is underway.
