KATHMANDU: Gen-Z Movement leader Rabi Kiran Hamal has called on Home Minister Gurung to accept full political and moral responsibility for the fatal shooting in Sunsari and resign from office.

Expressing profound sorrow over the death of Om Prakash Mehta, who was travelling to observe the holy Shrawan Monday ritual, Hamal extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased. He also wished a swift and complete recovery to all those injured in the incident.

Hamal stated that the use of lethal force against civilians raises serious concerns and warrants an immediate, impartial, and independent investigation. He stressed that law enforcement agencies are expected to rely on established crowd-control procedures, restraint, and non-lethal measures before resorting to the use of firearms.

He further argued that the incident represents a grave failure of public accountability and that Home Minister Gurung must accept both the political and moral responsibility for the actions of the security forces under his command by stepping down from his position.

Hamal also urged the government to ensure a transparent investigation, hold all those responsible accountable under the law, and deliver justice to the victim’s family while safeguarding the rights and dignity of every citizen.
