KATHMANDU: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung returned to Kathmandu on Sunday after a four-day visit to Sunsari and other Tarai-Madesh districts, where he held talks aimed at easing recent tensions.

Gurung had travelled to Sunsari following a meeting with Prime Minister Balen Shah. During the visit, he reached an agreement with the family of a deceased individual before travelling to Siraha and Dhanusha.

The home minister also held talks with representatives of the Hindu Samrat Sena in Dhanusha over the past two days. Although no written agreement was signed, both sides reached a verbal understanding, according to officials.

Following the talks, the Hindu Samrat Sena withdrew all of its protest programmes. Gurung assured the group that the government would work to implement the points agreed upon during the discussions.

The minister is expected to brief Prime Minister Shah on the outcomes of his visit and the understandings reached during the negotiations.
