Home Ministry team reaches Biratnagar to investigate Sunsari violence

SUNSARI: A Home Ministry investigation team has arrived in Biratnagar to probe the violent incident that occurred in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality, Sunsari.

The five-member committee, led by Home Ministry Joint Secretary Bhupendra Thapa, reached Biratnagar on Monday night. Shortly after arriving, the team visited Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar to inquire about the condition of those injured in the clash.

According to officials, the committee has already begun a detailed investigation into the incident. The Home Ministry has also recalled the Sunsari Chief District Officer (CDO) following the formation of the probe panel.

The team is scheduled to visit Kaptanganj and inspect the incident site as part of its investigation.

The committee was formed on Monday under the coordination of Thapa.

The violence broke out on Sunday night after a dispute erupted between two groups in Kaptanganj, Ward No. 3 of Dewanganj Rural Municipality. As the situation escalated, police opened fire while attempting to bring the unrest under control.

One person was killed in the firing. Following the incident, the local administration imposed an indefinite curfew to prevent further escalation of tensions.
