KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have expressed grief over human casualties and physical damages caused by sudden flood in Bhotekoshi River and drawn attention of the government to be proactive in rescue, search and relief operation.

Speaking in urgent hour of the meeting of House of Representatives today, Arjun Narsingh KC of the Nepali Congress requested the government to involve in rescue operation in a rapid manner at flood affected areas.

He also urged for rescue, relief, compensation and rehabilitation in flood-hit areas including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha, adding more than 12 bridges have been damaged in Nuwakot district.

Similarly, Mohan Acharya of the Nepali Congress, elected as HoR member from Rasuwa, asked the government to declare national disaster, adding rescue operation is possible only from helicopter as road network has been disconnected due to flood.

The flood has swept away downstream settlements, motorable bridges and hydropower projects in Rasuwa and huge human casualties have been estimated.

Basu Maya Tamang of Rastriya Swatantra Party demanded the government to search missing persons by immediately using helicopters and make arrangement of food and temporary shelters free of cost for the people displaced from flood.

Likewise, Yubraj Dulal, Saraswoti Lama, Sita Thapaliya and Ganga Devi Shrestha asked the government to relocate the flood affected people to safer places.

Similarly, lawmakers, speaking in the urgent hour of the HoR meeting today, stressed that national unity is needed to help and support those affected by the flood in Rasuwa. All the members of the House of Representatives have shown that they stand with the people, putting unity above party lines. They also called on the government to act with urgency in the search and rescue, and relief operations.

Those MPs speaking in this line were Samikshya Baskota, Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh, Ramesh Kumar Malla, Parbati BK, Prakash Singh Karki, Tosima Karki and Kriparam Rana.
