KATHMANDU: Chief Whip of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Kabindra Burlakoti, has demanded the government to mobilize all mechanism of the state in rescue, relief and rehabilitation in flood-hit areas.
Speaking in urgent hour of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Burlakoti shared that they have received the information of missing of thousands of citizens due to flood in Bhotekoshi River as well as the flood has made huge destruction in hydropower projects, infrastructures of security bodies, schools, settlements and bridges.
He mentioned that the details of damages have not been completely received yet, adding that the situation is beyond the imagination.
Stating that the flood has affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, Chitwan and Nawalparasi West, the RSP Chief Whip urged the government to immediately carryout rescue operation and provide health services in flood-hit areas.
He also requested all sides including government, political parties, government bodies, organisations and ex-police persons and ex-army to be mobilized in rescue and relief operation, sharing that discussion was underway regarding the direct participation of lawmakers of flood-affected areas in rescue and relief operation.
Burlakoti asked the government to operate national disaster fund and to declare national disaster based on necessity and justification, underscoring the need of making long-term disaster management strategy taking the support of friendly countries in difficult situation.
