KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives under the Federal Parliament is scheduled to meet today at 1:00 p.m., with key discussions set to focus on the Indigenous Nationalities Commission’s annual report and a motion addressing the rights of landless and informal settlers.
On behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam will table the Sixth Annual Report (FY 2024/25) of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission.
The meeting will also deliberate on a motion of urgent public importance tabled by Bhim Raj Angdembe, parliamentary party leader of the Nepali Congress. The proposal calls on the government to identify genuine landless people, squatters and unmanaged settlers, ensure their protection and rehabilitation, provide secure housing and access to basic services including food, healthcare, education and livelihoods, guarantee fair compensation and permanent resettlement, and expedite the distribution of land ownership certificates (Lalpurja) to eligible beneficiaries.
The motion has been supported by lawmakers Ain Bahadur Mahara, Yubaraj Dulal and Aaren Rai.
Meanwhile, five parliamentary committees are also scheduled to meet today, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
The Finance Committee will continue clause-by-clause deliberations on the bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2002 (2058 BS).
The International Relations and Tourism Committee will hold a conceptual discussion with the concerned ministry on the Tourism Bill, 2024 (2081 BS).
The Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee will discuss the management of cooking gas supplies.
The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee will conduct conceptual and clause-by-clause deliberations on the bill seeking to restore previous provisions of the Nepal Special Service Act, 1985 (2042 BS). The committee will also discuss the report of the Procedure Drafting Subcommittee.
The Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee will hold discussions with its former chair, Ram Narayan Bidari, on issues related to government assurances.
