SUNSARI: The Sunsari District Administration Office has imposed an indefinite curfew in five areas of the district following violent clashes in Dewanganj that left one person dead and 21 others injured, escalating tensions in the region.

Chief District Officer Basudev Ghimire issued the curfew order under Section 6(A) of the Local Administration Act, 1971, with effect from 7:00 a.m. on Monday until further notice. Authorities said the measure was necessary to maintain law and order after police opened fire while attempting to bring overnight clashes between two groups in Dewanganj under control. The shooting resulted in the death of one person and injuries to 21 others, triggering heightened security concerns across the affected areas.

Under the curfew order, all movement within the designated zones has been prohibited. The administration has also banned all forms of public gatherings, processions, demonstrations, meetings, and sit-ins until the situation returns to normal.

The curfew covers the Harinagara, Bhutaha, Kasanaganj, Ghuski and Dewanganj market areas, with the administration defining specific geographical boundaries for each location. Local authorities have urged residents to remain indoors and strictly comply with the restrictions, warning that the curfew will remain in force until a further notice is issued.
