KATHMANDU: Construction of a new school building at Shree Maheshwar Secondary School in Bhimdatta Municipality-10, Kanchanpur, has begun with financial assistance from the Government of India.

The foundation stone was jointly laid by Vashistha Nandan, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Nilam Lekhak Joshi, Deputy Mayor of Bhimdatta Municipality.

The project is being implemented under India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) scheme with financial assistance of approximately Rs 19 million. Bhimdatta Municipality will oversee implementation of the project.

According to the Indian Embassy, the school building is the 11th High Impact Community Development Project being implemented in Kanchanpur district.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, local representatives and stakeholders appreciated India’s continued development assistance, expressing confidence that the new school building will provide students and teachers with a safer, more organized and higher-quality learning environment.

The project is part of broader development cooperation between Nepal and India aimed at strengthening the two countries’ close bilateral ties. Officials said the infrastructure support is expected to contribute to local educational development while supporting Nepal’s broader development and prosperity goals.
