A A+ A-

KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon via an Air India flight for an official visit aimed at strengthening military cooperation between Nepal and India.

During his stay, General Seth is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel and meet Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who also oversees the defense portfolio.

President Ram Chandra Paudel will confer the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army on General Seth during a special ceremony at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.

The visiting Army Chief will also pay tribute at the Military Pavilion in Tundikhel and participate in formal programs at the Nepali Army Headquarters.

The visit marks General Seth’s first foreign trip since he assumed command of the Indian Army on June 30, 2026.

His visit continues a longstanding tradition established in 1950, under which Nepal and India mutually confer the honorary rank of general upon the military chiefs of the two countries.
