KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth is set to arrive in Kathmandu at 4 PM today on an official visit to receive the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army.
President Ramchandra Paudel will formally confer the title upon him during a special ceremony at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.
General Seth, who assumed command on June 30, 2026, selected Nepal for his first foreign visit since taking office. His trip marks the highest-level visit by an Indian official since Balen Shah became Prime Minister.
During his stay, General Seth is slated to hold bilateral talks with Chief of Army Staff Ashok Raj Sigdel to discuss mutual military cooperation.
He will also pay tribute at the Military Pavilion in Tundikhel and meet with Prime Minister Balen Shah, who oversees the defense portfolio.
The conferral upholds a cross-border tradition established in 1950, where both nations mutually grant the honorary general rank to each other’s military heads.
Continuing this custom, Nepali Army Chief Sigdel previously received the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army from Indian President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on December 12, 2024
