KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has been awarded the honorary rank of General of the Nepali Army during a special ceremony at Sheetal Niwas on Monday.

President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank on General Seth at the ceremony, continuing a longstanding Nepal-India military tradition dating back to 1950, under which the two countries confer the honorary rank of General on each other’s army chiefs.

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav, Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel and senior Nepali Army officials attended the ceremony. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava was also present.

General Seth arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon for a three-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of General Sigdel. During the visit, he handed over military and medical supplies to the Nepali Army at a ceremony held at the Army Headquarters.

As part of his engagements, General Seth also planted trees on the premises of the Nepali Army Headquarters. He had earlier met General Sigdel at the Army Headquarters and laid a wreath at the Military Pavilion in Tundikhel. He was also accorded a guard of honour at the Army Headquarters.
