KATHMANDU: India has supported a wide range of community-level development projects across Nepal, with education, health, roads, agriculture, drinking water and other basic infrastructure among the key priority sectors.
According to details released by the Government of India, High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) have been implemented in multiple districts across Nepal’s seven provinces in sectors identified as priorities by the Government of Nepal.
Education has received the largest share of projects, with 309 projects implemented across 71 districts in all seven provinces. These projects include the construction and development of 222 schools, with the total investment in educational facilities estimated at around NPR 868 crore, including approximately NPR 656 crore for schools.
The health sector accounts for 62 projects across 33 districts in all seven provinces, with health facilities developed at an estimated cost of NPR 275 crore.
In transport infrastructure, 25 projects have been undertaken, comprising 20 roads and five bridges across 15 districts in six provinces, with an estimated investment of NPR 65 crore.
India has also supported 20 cultural infrastructure projects across 11 districts in six provinces, valued at approximately NPR 65 crore.
In the energy sector, 13 electrification projects have been implemented across 12 districts in six provinces, with an estimated investment of NPR 31 crore.
Agriculture-related infrastructure accounts for 15 projects across 14 districts in six provinces, with an estimated investment of NPR 73 crore.
Similarly, eight drinking-water supply projects have been undertaken across eight districts in four provinces, with an estimated cost of NPR 16 crore.
River management has also formed part of the development partnership, with nine river-training projects implemented across eight districts in five provinces, involving approximately NPR 29 crore.
In irrigation, four projects have been undertaken across four districts in two provinces, with an estimated investment of NPR 7 crore.
The projects are part of India-Nepal development cooperation focused on community-level infrastructure and services. The initiative has been presented under the broader framework of India-Nepal partnership in development, with an emphasis on projects that address locally identified needs.
The Indian side has described the initiative under the theme “Small Projects, Big Impact,” highlighting the role of community-level infrastructure in improving access to education, healthcare, connectivity, water, agriculture and other essential services.
