KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina has viewed that it is the Gorkhapatra’s duty to work of the people.
The Minister said so while addressing a special function organized today at the Gorkhapatra Corporation (GC) premises to mark the 126th anniversary of the Gorkhapatra daily.
“As the government or agencies under the government, we all operate with the tax of the citizens. That means we get facilities from the tax. Therefore, it is our first duty to work for the citizens. It is time for us all to move ahead thinking whether we have worked for people or not,” said Minister Dr. Timilsina.
Extending best wishes to journalists, employees in the GC and the audience, the Minister highlighted on the need to strengthen the GC and its publications.
Saying that a sea change has occurred in journalism landscape since the start of the publication of the Gorkhapatra 125 years ago, Minister Dr. Timilsina asked the Gorkhapatra family to review where the media house stands amidst all these changes, changes in ways and dimensions of making people informed.
He pointed out the need for all involved in the GC to think about and work to address people’s expectations in the context of the present media landscape. He urged all to not sit idly only taking pride in history and legacy. “Gorkhapatra needs to review its standing today and move forward.”
On the occasion, the Minister unveiled that the content page of Santhal and Hayu languages published in the Gorkhapatra in the multilingual page.
In its multilingual page, the Gorkhapatra presents content of 49 national languages.
Winners of 5km marathon held to mark 126th years of Gorkhapatra were also presented with prizes during the function.
